Some Basics for Card Crafting with Kidds

Hi ho,

The cry went out from a mommy hanging out with a little recovering mini-crafter daughter,
can you help us with making cards?
Heck, yeah, HAPPY To Do SO!

And now, straight from work…
without a script…
without any planning…
with barely getting supplies…

Making Cards Tipps for AnnMarie with Love

OK – so some of the basics for cardmaking FUNN…

  1. Use a CTMH Idea Book for ideas to copy –
today’s card is from the CTMH Seasonal Expressions page 19.
  2.  Stick with a basic card front size of 4.25″ x 5.5″; decide side fold or top fold; card base total size is 8.5″ x 11″
  3. Here is how to cut 3 cards from one 12″ x 12″ piece of card stock

Find the “grain” of the paper (folds more easily  – see video)

First Cut: 8.5″ – entire length

Second Cut: 1″ off or 11″ on the larger remaining piece

Third Cut: Cut the 8.5″ x 11″ piece into two equal pieces at 5.5″

You will have two 8.5″ x 11″ card bases (fold at 4,25″x 5.5″)
and one 3.5″ x 12″ base which can be made into two small cards or
one thin long card.
Use the scrap for sentiments, stamping on, etc.

4. For right now, we are going to decorate a 4.25″ x 5.5″ card front using a White Daisy or Colonial White base.
5. Most cards have:
Pretty B&T (patterned paper)
Colored Cardstock
Focal Point – where your eye focuses on; usually a featured stamped image with a sentiment
Some sort of small, usually kinda flattish, embellishment like sequins, gems, Shimmer Trim, or ribbon.
6. TIPPS: Ask your self, what is the biggest piece of B&T / Colored Cardstock and start creating!

SO…. get or cut some card bases, think who would like a pretty card to brighten their day, grab some paper scraps, a few favorite stamps, inks, adhesive, embellishments, and a trimmer (makes such nice straight lines), and start creating!

HAVE FUNN and Keep Creating!!!
